12 Ways to Protect Your Peace in the Midst of Chaos
Protecting your peace is an ongoing journey. With all that’s going on in the world on top of our own personal and professional challenges, there will be times when you feel stressed or overwhelmed. With some practice, you can learn to manage your emotions and find more peace in your life despite what’s going on.
This is how I protect my peace (in no particular order):
1. I don't watch the news - The news is often full of negative stories. Being constantly bombarded with bad news can make it difficult to stay at peace. Not only does this practice reduce exposure to negativity, it gives me more control over my mental space and helps me to be more present in the moment.
2. Breathing - Breathing is such a simple yet powerful tool and there are many breathing techniques that you can try. Taking intentional deep breaths can help slow down your heart rate, lower your blood pressure, and help you focus on the present moment. It sends a message to your body that you are safe.
3. Spending time with myself - Time alone for me is my time to relax and unwind. I can focus on my own thoughts and feelings, better connect with my inner self, reflect and be more mindful of my needs, and I can better protect my time and energy to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
4. Journaling - Journaling helps me process and make sense of my thoughts and feelings. It helps me to identify patterns and triggers, stay on track with my goals, document my progress, and it's a way for me to fully release and express myself freely.
5. Grounding in nature - When you're grounding you are connecting with the Earth's energy. Being in nature helps calm my mind and body. It helps me connect with myself, better focus on the present moment, be more grateful, and appreciate the simple things in life.
6. Remembering and accepting that everything plays out the way it’s meant to - This right here is a hard one. But everything that has happened in my life has led me to where I am today. This helps me to trust that everything is always working in my favor, even when it doesn’t feel that way. With this in mind, I worry less about the future and how things will play out.
7. Gratitude - Gratitude is another powerful tool that helps me focus on the good things in my life and appreciate what I have.
8. Focusing on what I love and desire - The things that I love and desire are what keep me motivated and enjoying the journey. The more I focus on the things I love, the more I bring them in to my life.
9. Looking for the opportunity in everything - I try to see the good in difficult situations, which helps me to be more positive in the midst of challenges. It can help you be more resilient and bounce back quicker from setbacks, it can help you come up with more creative solutions, and be more grateful.
10. Doing things I enjoy and that light me up - Being intentional about spending my time doing things that I enjoy helps me to relax and destress. It also boosts my mood which makes me feel happier and free.
11. Trusting myself and that the Universe has my back - When I trust myself I am more likely to make decisions that align with my core values. It helps me to be more resilient, more present, and more grateful.
12. Honoring my emotions and energy levels - When I honor my emotions and energy levels, I am more in tune with myself and aware of how I’m feeling, I avoid situations that drain my energy, I make decisions that align with my needs, and I am better able to set boundaries that protect my time and energy to avoid feeling overwhelmed. This can also help you be more compassionate towards yourself, and more likely to live a more balanced life.
These are the practices and mindsets that work for me. What if any of these could you try out to help bring more peace to your life? What practices do you already use that work for you? Are there any that you would add to this list?
I hope this helps! If you need additional support, feel free to reach out!
